Sixth Form Conference
This conference offers expert updates on post-16 education, workshops for development, and collaboration on key issues for Sixth Form leaders.
The National Autistic Society’s Education Report (2021) found that only 1 in 4 parents of autistic children were happy with their child’s education, and that over 70% of autistic learners thought that school would be better if more teachers understood autism.
We are delighted to offer this interactive training course facilitated by the specialist team at Lighthouse School. This 2-part session will provide you with the skills to enhance your SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) practice in school with autistic learners.
Delegates will focus in on two key areas that are key to autistic individuals, gaining insight, further understanding and practical strategies about how you can adapt your practice to best support autistic learners. Delegates will have opportunities through group activities to connect with fellow educators, exchange ideas and share best practice.
Delegates will explore how to support autistic learners with their emotional regulation. The session will cover:
· Exploring distress behaviours.
· Exploring the differences in Shutdown Vs Meltdown.
· Understanding the iceberg model and how to practically apply this.
· To understand how we use co-regulation.
· Strategies to support regulation.
Delegates will gain more understanding of what anxiety, masking and burnout effects autistic individuals. The session will cover:
· The link between autism and anxiety.
· To explore autistic masking and how this can result in burnout.
· To be able to use ‘Energy accounting’ principles.
· Strategies to support students with anxiety.
Previous delegates have come away for Lighthouse School’s training feeling 'inspired' and 'motivated' and have been keen to put the strategies learned into practice with their classrooms. 90% of delegates rate our training 5 out of 5.
I really enjoyed all the resources that you made available throughout the course that I could take away and use in the future. I enjoyed that it was both group work and presentation.
